What is the opposite of love?
Hate? Anger?
Not even close.
If you hate something or someone, you have a strong feeling there. That feeling means you had to care about that person/thing a lot in order to be feeling such a strong emotion. The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. Indifference means you don't care either way.
You could take it or leave it.
It's cheap to you. It doesn't have value. Indifference is the absence of emotion. Indifference is how you crush someone. Indifference is how you destroy a dream. Indifference is how you cut those you love.
How do you create indifference? All you have to do is cheapen those you love. Just lessen their value in your eyes. Dilute their compassion, erode the foundations of your friendship with words and thoughts that make it easier for you to say something like:
"It's just the way things are. It's not that big a deal"
Indifference. It's a snowball, but if you keep at it...you won't care about that either someday.
