Let me introduce you to the future of Rock N Roll.
Jet is what Rock has always been, and always should be. This is one of those albums that everyone should own and run in their stereo all day. Sure, you've heard their big hit "Are you gonna be my girl" in an Apple I-Pod commercial but you haven't even begun to understand what this band is bringing to everyone until you hear the whole album.
This is "soundtrack of life" music.
Four guys from Austrailia who freakin' tear it up, AND party just as hard as they play? Sound familiar? Yeah, believe me they know the similarities to AC/DC are obvious and they don't care. They understand millions of rock fans are looking up to them expectantly -- hoping that they are the chosen vessel that will herald a return to real grooves, and thick tone.
Of course, don't tell them that. Apparently Jet doesn't give a rats ass about "The resurgence of rock" or the people who want to see it happen. If you turn on MTV, you'll see a sudden increase in ugly people playing music that makes you wanna pull out your faded jeans, a black t-shirt, and bang your head. Bands like Rooney, Switchfoot, The Strokes, Velvet Revolver (Guns N' Roses sans Axle Rose) and The White Stripes have sprung into mainstream radio play. They're everywhere actually.
And do you think the music industry was caught by suprise?
Of course not, but thank god they're cashing in on something that kicks ass! Jet exemplifies this raw spirit and really gets your toes tapping. Every track on their Elektra release "Get Born" has a soul. It's tangible. There's a Beatles track, a Stones track, a few AC/DC flavors, some Kinks, and a dash of 70's anthem rock thrown in for scale. There is no room wasted, and no excess gobbed on top for radio airplay.
This shit makes an old country boy from Texas very very homesick. I wanna call up my brothers, grab some beers, and goof off for a few hours talking about guys like Eddie Van Halen, Joe Walsh, Richie Blackmore, and the times we've had listening to them.
Long live Rock N Roll.
